Image Description:
Image: 1/6 plate; Woman seated at posing table, wearing patterned dress with the fabric flaring up from waistfront gathered panel pulled in by more gathers at the shoulder seams, with applied color (green), a white neck ribbon with a collar, fingerless lace gloves, and hair in below-shoulder ringlets with a braid high up and back on the crown of the head. Preserver: [none]. Mat: Nonpariel with sandy finish (1840s). Case: Paper-covered wood-frame embossed with a floral and bird design [similar to the common "The Hovering Bird, Variant" design, Plate 95 on page 102 of "American Miniature Case Art" by Floyd and Marion Rinhart (Cranbury, New Jersey: A. S. Barnes and Co., Inc., 1969)] on the front and a geometric design on the back, with gilded pattern on the interior, with a red velvet pinchpad, and red velvet cushion embossed with a relatively uncommon patriotic design (1850-60s).
