Left image: Head and shoulders of a man with a full beard and hair length just below the ear, wearing jacket, vest and tie, with color applied to his cheeks. Right image: Half portrait of a woman seated in a posing chair, with her hair parted in the centre covering the tops of her ears, wearing a floral patterned dark dress, with a Jenny Lind collar and white undersleeves, drop earrings, a large brooch at her throat, rings on her fingers, and a long chain around her neck, with color applied to her cheeks, holding a baby wearing a white dress with short sleeves on her lap. Preservers: Straight and embossed with simple pattern (after 1850). Mats: Nonpariel with matte finish (mid 1840s to mid 1850s). Case: Paper-covered wood-frame embossed with a floral design both front and back, dark green velvet pinchpads (1850-60s).
