Image: 1/6 plate on violet ruby glass; Head and shoulders of young woman with hair parted in the center and worn in ringlets beginning at ear down to her shoulders, likely with a knot at low on the crown at the back, wearing a striped dress with an open neckline finished with a wide white collar that lies out to the shoulders with fronts that do not meet, with a brooch attached by the throat, a V-shaped yoke or cape edged in long silk fringe drops at the front, 5 silk tassels attached down the front center, with color applied to her cheeks and lips. Preserver: Straight but more ornate (1850s). Mat: Oval with matte finish and ornate (late 1850s). Case: Paper-covered wood-frame embossed with a geometric design both front and back, with gilded pattern trim on interior, red velvet pinchpad and red velvet cushion embossed with floral design (1850-60s).
