Image Description:
Image: 1/6 plate; Seated, freckle-faced woman with arm resting on cloth covered posing table, hair parted in center and curled under away from face covering ears, wearing a dress made of a printed fabric, with a bodice cut with three parallel darts at either side, that closes in the front with white buttons, and large white bishop sleeves with arm-hugging caps, with a dark apron, likely made from an old dress, with a white collar and neck ribbon tied at at her throat, a black watch cord hanging down the front from around her neck, and color applied to her cheeks, and gold to a ring on her finger. Preserver: Straight, narrow, embossed with simple pattern (after 1850). Mat: Nonpariel with sandy finish (1840s). Case: Leather-covered wood-frame with scarce "Bird Hatching Eggs" design (Berg No. 5-35) both front and back, with a gilded pattern trim on interior edge, a red velvet pinchpad and a red velvet cushion embossed with a floral design (1850s).
