Image Description:
Image: 1/6 plate; Child seated on a chair beside a cloth-covered posing table, with hair parted slightly to one side and curled in small ringlets, wearing a patterned dress with a long plain waist, shoulder-baring neckline, and short sleeves, with whitework pantalettes frill showing, white knit stockings, and gaiters fastened with buttons at the outside. Preserver: Straight, narrow, embossed with simple pattern (after 1850). Mat: Oval with matte finish (ca.1850). Case: Leather-covered wood-frame embossed with a geometric design on the front and a different geometric design on the back, with a gilded pattern trim on interior edge, a red velvet pinchpad, and a red velvet cushion with a floral design (1850s). Enclosed item: a lock of hair curled inside the enclosed note.
