Image: 1/6 plate; Head and shoulders of a woman with hair parted in the center and loosely curled below her ears, wearing a long-sleeved stripe-patterned dress with vertical pleats running down the front, with a Jenny Lind collar surrounded by a wide pale silk ribbon folded or tied elaborately at the throat, covered in a large, dark, patterned, sheer shawl, with light colored kid gloves to the wrist, and color applied to her cheeks, lips and neck ribbon. Preserver: [none]. Mat: Octagonal with pebble finish (1839-mid 40s). Case: Paper-covered wood-frame embossed with a floral design (a variation of Berg Nos. 5-94 and 5-112; it is "The Delicate Roses, Variant" Plate 124, page 118 of "American Miniature Case Art" by Floyd and Marion Rinhart) on both the front and back, with a red velvet pinchpad and a rose red silk cushion (ca. 1850).
