Image Description:
Image: 1/6 plate on red ruby glass; Head and shoulders of a man with a receding hairline and a beard on his chin, dressed in a jacket, patterned vest, white shirt, and a narrow tie with hanging ends, color applied to his cheeks. Preserver: Fancier with inward points at the corners (after 1858). Mat: Oval with matte finish and ornate (late 1850s), embossed with two figures in profile in the upper corners, and two views of a castle with a moat in the bottom corners. Case: Leather-covered wood-frame embossed with a geometric design both front and back, with a gilded patterned edge on the interior, a blue velvet pinchpad, and blue velvet cushion embossed with the photographer's name and address (1850s).
