Image Description:
Image: 1/6 plate; Postmortem of a young child with eyes closed laid out on a white sheet and cushion set upon two painted wooden chairs, dressed in a shoulder-baring short-sleeved dress of dark fabric with a printed pattern, edged at the sleeves and shoulders in white trim, with dark boots and a gilded ring on one finger. Preserver: Straight but more ornate (1850s). Mat: Double elliptical, more ornate (1850s onwards). Case: Paper-covered wood-frame embossed with a geometric design both front and back, with a red velvet pinchpad and a red velvet cushion embossed with a geometric design (1850-60s).
