Image: 1/6 plate; Girl seated in an elaborate posing chair with arm resting on a fabric-covered posing table adorned with a basket of flowers, with hair parted in the center in plaited puffs over the ears and a tall tortoise comb tucked into the knot of hair at the back of the crown, wearing a short-sleeved, light colored dress with very long tapered darts of the fitted bodice, a tight armscye and a high close neckline finished with a white collar, patterned trim at the edge of the sleeves, gilded brooch at throat, earrings, and gilded chain around her neck, with color applied to her cheeks. Preserver: [none] (pre 1847). Mat: Octagonal with pebble finish (1839-mid 40s). Case: Leather-covered wood-frame embossed with "The Delicate Roses, Variant" design (Plate 124 page 118 of "American Miniature Case Art" by Floyd and Marion Rinhart, see page 187 for detailed background information about this design) both front and back, with a black velvet pinchpad, and a rose red silk cushion (1845-50).Format:
