Image: 1/4 plate; Head and shoulders of a woman with hair parted in the center and covered with a sheer white daycap tied with ribbon under her chin, wearing a black dress with cartridge pleats at the waist and a whitework collar and a black moiré silk shawl with a black cord around her neck. Preserver: [none] (pre-1847). Mat: Octagonal with pebble finish (1839-mid 40s). Case: Leather-covered wood-frame embossed with a floral design on the front only, with a matching purple velvet pinchpad and purple velvet cushion embossed with the photographer's advertisement (ca. 1850).
