Image: 1/4 plate; Reproduction of a head and shoulders illustration of a man wearing a dark black coat with a high collar and vest with a white ruffled shirt, tie or scarf at his throat. Preserver: Simple rope pattern. Mat: Octagonal with pebble finish (1839-mid 40s). Case: Leather-covered wood-frame embossed with a floral design (without the horizontal borders is called "The Delicate Roses, Variant" Plate 124 page 118 of "American Miniature Case Art" by Floyd and Marion Rinhart) both front and back, with gilded edge trim on the interior, a purple pinchpad and a purple cushion embossed with a leaf (ca. 1850).
