Image: 1/4 plate; Seated man and woman; man dressed in dark jacket with wide lapels and high back collar, dark trousers, checked vest, white shirt with collar points down, over a black silk bow tie, holding a cane in one hand; woman with hair parted in the center and hands clasped in her lap, wearing long-sleeved plaid dress buttoned up the front, with trimmed epaulettes, loosely fitted bias-cut sleeves and matching undersleeves with trimmed cuffs, and a wide white collar and brooch at the throat, ; color applied to their cheeks. Preserver: Straight but more ornate (1850s). Mat: Double elliptical, more ornate (1850s onwards). Case: Thermoplastic with a scarce geometric design (Berg No. 3-14), with red velvet pinchpad, dark purple velvet cushion embossed with geometric design.
