Image: 1/9 plate; Head and shoulders of a woman in a dark shoulder-baring dress, hair parted in the center, puffed at the sides, with ribbons or curls at the back, a gold chain around her neck hanging down the front, a brooch set between the strands of the chain, wearing drop earrings, color applied to her cheeks. Preserver: Fancier with inward points at the corners (after 1858). Mat: Oval with matte finish and ornate (late 1850s).
