Image: 1/6 plate; Woman with hair parted in the center with a band of hair pulled back from the forehead, the side hair puffed over the ears but not covering them completely, wearing a checked dress shirred at the waist with short ruffled sleeves, and a flat, wide whitework collar, fine netted silk mitts on her hands, and a brooch at her throat. Preserver: Straight, narrow, embossed with simple pattern (after 1850). Mat: Double elliptical, more ornate (1850s onwards).
