Image: 1/6 plate on purple ruby glass; Seated man with gray hair, arm resting on cloth-covered posing table upon which rests an upturned top hat, wearing dark trousers, a dark jacket and vest, with a white shirt, collar turned down over a dark bow tie, color applied to his cheeks. Preserver: Fancier with inward points at the corners (after 1858) Mat: Oval with matte finish and ornate (late 1850s). Case: Paper-covered wood half frame embossed with a geometric design on the back, with a red fabric pinchpad (1850-60s).
