Image Description:
Image: 1/9 plate; Seated man with arm resting on cloth covered posing table, hair parted on one side and covering most of the ears, wearing a dark jacket, vest, and trousers, with a white shirt with a large collar partially turned down over a dark bow tie, color applied to his cheeks. Preserver: Straight, narrow, embossed with simple pattern (after 1850). Mat: Oval with sandy finish (late 1840s). Case: Leather covered wood frame embossed with a floral pattern both front and back, with a red velvet pinchpad, and a red velvet cushion embossed with a flower and vase design (ca. 1850).
