Image: 1/6 plate; Two seated girls wearing shoulder-baring dresses, the brunette with hair parted in the center and long plaits down the back, wearing a mid-toned short sleeve dress with ruffles, the blonde with hair parted in the center in chin length ringlets wearing a light colored short-sleeved gingham dress with a gather at the shoulder; both girls holding a book or case between them. Preserver: [none] (pre-1847). Mat: Scallop with pebble finish (1840s). Case: Leather covered wood frame embossed with the common "A Spray of Roses, Variant" design [Plate 127 on page 119 of "American Miniature Case Art" by Floyd and Marion Rinhart (Cranbury, New Jersey: A. S. Barnes and Co., Inc., 1969)] on the front only, with a red velvet pinchpad and a red velvet cushion embossed with a floral design (ca. 1857).
