Image: 1/9 plate; Seated woman with one arm resting on a book atop a fabric covered posing table, holding a book or case in her other hand, hair parted in the center and rolled in curls back behind the ears, wearing a floral printed dress buttoned up the front, with long bishop sleeves, and a wide flat whitework collar, with a gilded brooch at her throat and a gilded ring on her finger, color applied to her cheeks. Preserver: Straight but more ornate (1850s). Mat: Nonpariel with matte finish (mid 1840s to mid 1850s). Case: Paper covered wood frame embossed with a geometric design both front and back, with exterior and interior gilded edge trim, and a red velvet pinchpad (1850-60s).Inscription:
