Image: 1/6 plate; Seated man with curly hair covering the tops of the ears and puffed at the forehead, with a full beard, arm resting on cloth covered posing table, wearing a dark jacket with collar rising high at the back of the neck, vest and pants, a white shirt with upturned collar and a broad dark tie, with gilded shirt buttons, and a gilded ring on one finger. Preserver: Straight and embossed with simple pattern (after 1850). Mat: Double elliptical, with matte finish (1850). Case: Unmatched halves; paper-covered wood frame front half embossed with a geometric and floral design, with a rose red velvet cushion embossed with a peacock design; paper-covered wood frame back half embossed with a geometric design, with a rose red velvet pinchpad (ca.1850-60s).
