Image: 1/2 plate; Young child with eyes shut seated on a wooden and fabric chair wearing a long white dress with a blue ribbon at each shoulder.
Preserver: Fancier with inward points at the corners (after 1858).
Mat: Oval with matte finish and simple embossed design (1850).
Case: Leather covered wood frame with fitted brass hinges, a push-button clasp, and rounded corners, embossed with a simple lined edge trim both front and back, a red velvet pinchpad, and a plain (unembossed) ruby red cushion (ca. 1850).
Inscription:
(printed on paper): Katharine E. Collins (Sept. 12, 1865) Post-mortem picture of Elizabeth's daughter. Because it is painted and in / excellent condition, it may be the most valuable item in this collection.
