In the earlier photograph (c. 1920), Ellen is giving a bath to her first child, Richard Hartshorne Jr. In the second photograph (c. 1950), she sits on the dock with her grandchild, Susan Bell (daughter of Frank and Nancy Hartshorne Bell), and a cat. Ellen's Isle was purchased by Richard Hartshorne in 1920 and was a favorite vacation spot of the Hartshorne family for over 80 years.Format:
